Roots Poem

I am from flowers,
from fertilizer and potting mix dirt,
I am from cement,
(hard, grayish like my memory)
I am from mariachis,
whose sound woke up every morning as I remember coming from my grandmothers radio,

I am from converses hanged on wires,
from rocky roads and messed up sidewalks,
I am from my dogs tragic death,
from drunk people driving to car accidents,
I am from Dona Gloria's Taco store,
whose delicious fresh meat hugged by a tortilla were enough to fill my tummy,

I am from losing a brother,
from tears shed and nightmares,
I am from hot days,
from the few clothes my mother could afford to the desperation for money,

I am from Ingles sin Barrreras,
from trying to learn a new language and adapting to a new place,
most importantly I'm from inspiration and motivation I absorbed along the way,

I remember going to a room where I used to lay,
It reminded of what my grandmother used to say,
whose sweet voice still guides me through all of my days.
